I am going to join in on Gretchen and Kristin‘s link up called “What’s New With You?” which is more or less the same concept as ‘Currently’. Their prompts are more of a status check-in which will be good for accountability for me.

The Guy Behind the Blog :: November 2016

The Guy Behind the Blog - Ry tells as much as we can squeeze out of him.

Once a month I talk about what’s going on in my life at that moment with Currently posts, and then the kids get a monthly post where they get to shine; this post is where Ry gets to take over for a day each month. Hosted by Betsy and Laura, TGBTB linkup is on the last Thursday of each month if you’d like to join up too! (They have since ended the linkup..) Plus it means I get to spotlight this amazing man I have been blessed to share my life with for the past 15 years 😉

In case you are new around here: Ry and I were high school sweethearts, married after I graduated high school, he enlisted in the USAF, and our first kiddos arrived 4 years after that. Our oldest is 6.5, our daughter is 3.5, and our youngest a little more than a year and a half.

Our Thanksgiving Menu 2016

2016 Thanksgiving Menu - a day to eat and be thankful

Growing up, #TurkeyDay was always my favorite holiday of they year. It was one of the times my entire extended family got together and enjoyed each other’s company and caught up on the going’s on.
There wasn’t any stress about behaving and ‘liking’ a present, no matter how horrible it was, getting in trouble for opening a gift early, or avoiding all the foods and sweets I wasn’t allowed. (Coconut and I are NOT friends)
Instead it was about being grateful for what we had, who we spent time with and of course, the amazing food. If there’s one thing my family did well above all else, it’s eat food and love each other.

Daily Blog Post Themes

Daily Blog Post Themes

Sometimes my writing stalls. Ok, who am I kidding, I stall out all the time. Especially since moving almost all my recipes to Dimpled Kitchen, which cut a lot of out of what I was planning on writing here. I am slowly getting back into the personal side of blogging, and sharing (safely) parts of our lives, hoping to help others going through or about to go through some of the same things.

The ideas below are here to help break through writers block, and maybe make it easier to link up to Blog Hops to gain more exposure and interact with other bloggers.

Linkups; What are They?

What's a Blog Hop? Blogging 101 {By an Amateur}

A link party is when a blog that usually has a good amount of traffic hosts an event in which other bloggers are invited to post a link to a blog post they would like featured. The typical Blog Hop (aka Link Party, Linky Party, Link up Party, Blog Link Party, Blog Carnival) is fun a way to discover and follow blogs, as well as promote your own. On a regular basis the host poses a topic, active blogging members discuss it, and then link to their posts.
Some hosts will offer an email reminder list (automatically, or as an opt-in feature) so that you will reminded each week, and know when the party goes live (aka, when the post is published). A great way to get your best blog posts in front of new readers is to participate in link parties.

I am not an expert. But I have been around the blogging scene for some time now. And I’d like to share some of my mistakes and lessons learned for the new bloggers. (Although I think some of you are way past me already, I still need content for my own site, and possibly this post will help somebody, haha.)

Natural Deodorant 101

#A2Z Challenge - Natural Deodorants

Deodorants and antiperspirants are used by about 90% of the US population to improve body odor and prevent sweating. Unfortunately, the hidden truth is that deodorants and antiperspirants actually contain harmful chemicals that are toxic to our bodies. Your personal body odor is determined by your diet, your hormones, your genetics, your lifestyle, your mood, your wardrobe… etc. But that doesn’t mean you have to be anything less than sweetly scented. There are all kinds of healthier natural deodorants that work best at keeping you fresh as a daisy.

Life is complicated. Married life is more so. And when you add kids to the cocktail, sometimes all hell can break loose. Having a printed planner available can really help both yourself, and whoever might step in to help should something happen to you.
Here are a few of my favorite printables that reside within my own family planner.

Jujube Be Hip Bag

#A2Z Challenge - Jujube

With my oldest; it felt like we went through 100 diaperbags. (I think it was 10) they broke, they were too big, they were ugly, or they just weren’t functional. Just before Lea was born, I found this bag on Amazon for less than a 1/3 of what the other bags of the same brand were going for; so I snagged it. And 3 years later, it’s still getting regular use.

The ultimate diaper bag must:
  • Stand the test of time.
  • Hold more than a black hole.
  • Easy to carry around.
  • Look attractive.
  • Have flexible and logical organization.

It is What You Make of It. (NOT!)

#A2Z Challenge - It is what you make of it.

I must confess… this phrase will get my blood boiling faster than you can say ‘dependa’ twice. Mostly because it’s so incredibly judgemental and callous. It is NEVER another person’s job to tear someone down; much less mil-spouses doing it to each other. Yet time and time again, you will see this phrase posted whenever someone even whispers about the possibility of not liking an assignment. And ya know, some of them just suck.

You can shine it up, shape it how you want and paint it all pretty; but a turd will always be a turd.
