Wild Women Wednesday is a monthly interview with amazing military mama bloggers. Far too many women are caught up in the disease of competition with one another; everyone just wants to be Instagram famous, with no qualms about tearing one another down in the process. My hope is that this becomes a series that builds community and friendship in the blogosphere.

Meet Jennifer; a yoga loving, OCD, mom of a three year old, and three fur babies. A self-identified neat freak, doing her best to leave the world a better place; all while it seems the world has turned upside down. Jennifer is from a variety of places in Pennsylvania, growing up mostly between Philadelphia & Lancaster. Currently married in to an Active Duty Air Force Guy, she and her family have recently, been lucky enough to escape what is commonly referred to as the “black hole base” in New Mexico. The Prayer of the Airman’s Wife

Make clear my airman’s path of victory,
That it is sure and swift.
Grant him strength of spirit and body,
That he may defeat each enemy.
Give him vision to see his duty,
That it is done as it should be.
And grant him comfort and peace,
That he may know his work is just.

But most of all, Lord, keep him safe,
That he may soon return –
To the family, country, and freedom
That his courage protects.

God bless America and
God bless my Airman!

It is What You Make of It. (NOT!)

#A2Z Challenge - It is what you make of it.

I must confess… this phrase will get my blood boiling faster than you can say ‘dependa’ twice. Mostly because it’s so incredibly judgemental and callous. It is NEVER another person’s job to tear someone down; much less mil-spouses doing it to each other. Yet time and time again, you will see this phrase posted whenever someone even whispers about the possibility of not liking an assignment. And ya know, some of them just suck.

You can shine it up, shape it how you want and paint it all pretty; but a turd will always be a turd.

Our second installment features Kara; whom I met through a military blogger networking group on Facebook. Kara used to be the Green Mtn Girl (who I actually had followed some time ago! Small world) but has since evolved into The Hippy MilSpouse. While we haven’t met in person (and maybe never will) I do feel that Kara and I are supposed to be friends (CREEPER ALERT!) So I had a little bit of an ulterior motive when I asked to interview her.

Military Spouse Appreciation Day

Military Spouse Day or Military Spouse Appreciation Day is celebrated on the Friday before Mother’s Day in the United States. Many United States citizens take this day to acknowledge the significant contributions, support, and sacrifices of spouses of their Armed Forces.

President Ronald Reagan recognized the profound importance of spouse commitment to the readiness and well-being of military members and declared May 23, 1984 the first Military Spouse Day with Proclamation 5184, dated April 17, 1984. The US Secretary of Defense, Caspar Weinberger standardized the date by declaring the Friday preceding Mother’s Day as Military Spouse Day.

Military Wife do not be Afraid

God was watching a military wife one day as she sat in her bathroom crying quietly to herself so her children could not hear.

He stood behind her and said Military wife do not be scared.
I am always behind you your heartache I share.
Do not be afraid to tell the ones you love
that your soldier may or may not be watching you from above.
You are tired I know but do not be afraid
to tell your soldier after his long hard rough day.
Do not hide inside all the fears that you feel
Your soldier he will listen and your heart he will heal.
He thinks of you more than you think of him.
He loves you so dearly, his heart you did win
He wants you to know as he cries alone
That you make his life, his pride and his home.
Military wife you are not alone
when you say to your children that daddy will not come home.
He is with me at last
and I care for him always
but his love for you lasts and with you it will stay
He will watch over you daily and at noon and at night
He will kiss your head gently even when he’s out of sight
Military wife do not cry, I am here
I am holding you hand, and I swallow your fear
And with that the wife got up on her feet. And although she didn’t hear god speak to her. She was alright.

Prayer for Military Spouses

Eternal God,
We thank you for the significant relationships that are such an important part of life, especially those we share within our own families. Help us to strengthen these relationships by our sensitivity to each other and by our willingness to practice patience, understanding, and forgiveness within our homes.

Give us the strength to face the daily challenges and sacrifices that are part of the life style we experience within the military community. May we develop a balanced outlook on life and a deep commitment to each other, though the encouraging touch, the understanding smile, and the many small acts of kindness.

May we give generously of ourselves to the noble causes that are so important to our world, our nations, and our communities. Enable us to become totally dedicated to the sanctity of marriage and the health of our families, which serve as the foundation of society.

We offer this prayer in gratitude for all the blessings of the past and with hope in that which awaits us in the future. In your name we pray,

Amen.

“An Airman’s Wife”

I’m married to my hero,
I live a life some can not bare.
His job is not done safely on the ground,
But high up in the air.

I spend many nights alone,
Awake for hours at a time.
Longing for that man I love,
The one who‘s again left me behind.

I share him with this country,
To which he swore he’d be true.
And though I admire his integrity,
Sometimes I don’t want to see it through.

He’s promised to protect them,
Those who weren’t born free.
And when I explain it to our son,
“Sometimes that’s without you and me…”

And I know how much he’s missing him,
Because we feel the same…
We miss our hero, and our daddy…
We hate this silly game.

Our days are never promised,
And it seems so unfair…
But this is the life we’ve chosen,
To leave it now, we wouldn’t dare.

The day’s always drag,
Time never seems to fly!
But people enjoy their freedom,
Because our daddy protects the skies!

We fly the stars and stripes,
And our yellow ribbon’s too!
We’re proud of where we come from!
We love, the Red, White, and Blue!

We’ll support what he stands for…
Liberty, Freedom, and Life
Because I’ve taken a vow that I’ll never let down,
To be my Airman’s wife…

Making of a Military Wife
Submitted By: MilitaryMomma

When the good Lord was creating Wives, he was into his sixth day of overtime.
An angel appeared and said, “You’re having a lot of trouble with this one. What’s wrong with the standard model?”
And the Lord replied, “Have you seen the specs on this order? She has to be completely independent, but must be sponsored to get on post; have the qualities of both father and mother during deployments; be a perfect hostess to 4 or 40; run on black coffee; handle emergencies without a manual; be able to handle flu, birthdays and moves around the world; have a kiss that can cure anything from a child’s torn Valentine to a husband’s weary day; have the patience of a saint when waiting for the Unit to return home; and have six pairs of hands.”
The angel shook her hand slowly and said, “Six pairs of hands… no way!”
